Linewize Classwize | Important Update for BYOD Schools

Important Classwize updates

Classwize and unmanaged
BYOD in 2024

In the new school year, Classwize will provide greater visibility of student activity on unmanaged devices.

In addition, the latest Linewize Connect software must be installed on every device intended for Classwize use, including unmanaged BYOD (to unlock greater visibility).

Ensure you're using the latest Connect software

If you intend to continue enjoying all the benefits of Classwize in 2024, the latest Linewize Connect software must be installed on every device intended for Classwize use.

Our team will need to guide you through this process. Please use the form below to book a meeting as soon as possible to get you up and running for Term 1, 2024.

Device types supported in 2024

In the new term in 2024, Classwize will be supported on the following device
types only:

  • School-managed and unmanaged Chromebooks (including BYOD) running Connect for Chrome (minimum Chrome OS 84+)1
  • School-managed and unmanaged Windows devices (including BYOD) running Connect for Windows (minimum Windows OS 10+)2
  • School-managed macOS devices (including school-managed BYOD) running Connect for macOS (minimum macOS Big Sur+)3
Important

If your school uses managed macOS devices we need to assist you with these changes. Please book a meeting with us at your earliest convenience.

As a reminder, Classwize will no longer be supported with unmanaged macOS devices or iOS and Android devices (including mobile phones). If this applies to your school, please contact us.

New features for BYOD

Full desktop visibility

Teachers will have full desktop visibility of students' online activity in class. This real-time full view helps teachers to spot inappropriate or off-task internet use quicker than before.

Longer screenshot browsing histories

By extending the screenshot browsing histories to two weeks, designated staff can gain more robust insights to support student feedback or intervention planning, as required.

Proactive prevention

To help keep students on task and focused, teachers can identify and address any inappropriate online content before class begins, as well as block or unblock sites easily before or during class.

  1. Device minimum specifications are subject to change. Find the latest supported versions here.
  2. We will only support school-managed macOS devices, including BYOD; however, they must be managed via an MDM (e.g., InTune, JAMF). We will not support macOS devices where the student is the administrator of their device as they can too easily tamper with settings and render Connect unable to function properly.
  3. Windows and macOS devices require either Connect for Windows or Connect for macOS, respectively.
